A note on the "season" nomenclature: The seasons that comprise the following list correspond to the box sets released in North America by Funimation.

However, these "seasons" only correspond to story arcs, and not to the pattern in which the show actually aired in either Japan or the United States. In Japan, Yu Yu Hakusho was aired year-round continuously, with regular pre-emptions for sporting events and television specials taking place, not split into standard seasonal cycles. In the United States, the show did indeed have four seasons, but those contained different episodes than on the DVDs.

Togashi said that he began working on YuYu Hakusho during a period of time around November ; Togashi said that he forgot the exact time. When first creating the series, Togashi did not have a clear idea of what he wanted to call it. When presenting rough drafts to his editors he used the tentative title "How to be a Ghost".

Once given the go-ahead to begin publication, Togashi proposed "YuYu-Ki Poltergeist Chronicles " for the title, as there would be battles with demons and it would be a play on SaiYu-Ki. He comments that he could have used "Den Legend " or "Monogatari Story ", but "Hakusho Report " was the first thing that came to his mind. The free Yu Yu Hakusho manga.

Yu Yu Hakusho is based on the manga of the same name by Yoshihiro Togashi. Togashi is perhaps now more famous for his Hunter X Hunter than he is for Hakusho, but this was the series that established his name and set him up financially.

Most of the seasons are around 25 episodes in length with the second season nearly twice that.

The first arc presents no real challenge for Yusuke and co. By comparison, the second arc lets you know its greater ambition from the very first episode. The Dark Tournament is a contest funded by wealthy humans in contact with the Demon World where teams of five fight eachother in one-on-one battles. This is the kind of mentality one has to have in the worlds of Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter X Hunter, as both are utterly brutal states of nature where force is necessary to back up any system of values.

Tournament arcs are notorious for their poor execution, often padded to hell with little significant character growth, but the Dark Tournament arc proves it can be done well. Fights last only an episode or two each, sometimes less, so the pace is steady and it never feels protracted. With long-running franchises where animation resources are strained by tight schedules, the most efficient way of keeping up quality is through active and involved directors. Shinbo was present in the first season, but there his episodes stood out drastically from the rest.

Starting with Dark Tournament, however, something must have changed. Animation is another area where this season excels. Usually with long-running shounen, consistently good animation is impossible within the limits of their scheduling and the impressive moments are limited to a few stand-out episodes. Another thing I particularly liked was how freely the show used background animation.

Background animation is trickier than plain character animation as it requires drawing everything in frame instead of just the characters, making its omnipresence throughout a season of a long-running franchise all the more unusual.

But the show has a surprisingly high bar of quality, especially in light of it being twice as long as the other arcs. Tetsuya Nishio said that when he worked on Yu Yu Hakusho there was a climate of friendly rivalry among the staff, that whenever someone did something cool everyone else would try to one-up it. It took me months of on-and-off watching to finish the first arc but I binged season 2 in under a week. A classic. Mandatory subs. I watched the show first time last year and I was baffled at how mediocre it was.Yu Yu Hakusho has to be one of the greatest shonen anime and manga ever created.

The manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from towith its anime adaptation starting in and ending the same year as the manga's finale. Yet despite its relatively brief time in the sun, it has proven itself as one of the best action sagas out there.

It no doubt becomes obvious it would feature quite a few iconic anime adversaries, but few are as memorable as Younger Toguro, an enemy Yusuke and the gang meet in the first season's last arc, before Toguro transitions into the role of Big Bad for the second season's Dark Tournament arc. Toguro, his older brother, and Genkai ran a dojo that taught people how to fight demons and utilize their spirit energy.

Genkai and the Toguros joined the Dark Tournament to hunt down Kairen for vengeance. Up until this point, Toguro seems fairly heroic.

Indeed, his victory in the tournament runs parallel to Yusuke's later arc in the Dark Tournament, fifty years after this event. However, the actions that followed his victory steered Toguro's path for years. During the tournament, he grew to admire the sheer power of every demon he fought, and, in doing so, wished to become as strong as them so he could never feel vulnerable as he had before.

Pagina 1 di 8 http://conaborazioni.ires.piemonte.it/admin

At the end of the tournament, the winners were granted a wish. The Toguros wished to become ageless demons with supreme power. That wish ended Toguro's relationship with Genkai, who grew so repulsed with Younger Toguro's decision that she grew to despise him.

Toguro would continue to fight in the Dark Tournament, seeking out new challenges to test his power, and often allowing rich people to hire him as a mercenary. This resulted in him taking on various dangerous and often immoral missions.

He started to feel pity for the lives he was forced to take. He grew strong enough that every fight lost its luster. He no longer felt the need to struggle, which led Toguro down a path of self-reflection.

Toguro saw his actions, even in service of money, as increasingly repulsive. While Toguro remained firmly in the employment of Sakyo, who rigged bets involving Toguro's strength to increase his wealth and clear out Tarukane's bank accountsToguro grew restless, forming vague plans on what punishment he deserved for his sins.

Enter Yusuke Urameshi. He and Kuwabara had left to save Yukino from Tarukane. While Toguro deliberately throws his fight against the two in order to help Sakyo win a bet made against Tarukane, Toguro admires Yusuke's strength enough.
